Tales Of The Golden Talon
The Video Game
The following is a purely hypothetical imagining of how the DRAGONIA Trilogy might operate as a video game (based on my philosophy of leave-no-brimstone-unturned). Written several years ago, the game concept fits well around this kind of story and particularly so, this particular story. Then again, putting together what's here was the easy part. And the cheapest.
Since we live in a world where movies are made from popular video games, and vid games are spawned from popular movies, it makes perfect sense that popular book illustrations (as art) might promote the books from whence they originated. And likewise that books (illustrated by their authors) if and when they achieve some level of notoriety, could popularize the artworks contained in those volumes. Especially if the art, by itself, was viable both with and without the books involved.
Whether a writer, artist, screenplay or script person, it doesn't hurt to equip oneself with as many creative tools (possibilities and potentials) as possible. Thus in keeping with this self-prescribed axiom, here is a rough facsimile of one version of how DRAGONIA might be adapted into the video game format. Allow me to also mention that I am, by no means, a competent video game designer. I may not even qualify as an incompetent one. This is more like the first layer of dust that covers where a treasure might be buried. In any event, I just wanted it known that I put this together with nary a clue as to what I was doing. I think it looks impressive somewhat, and a real designer (after they stopped laughing) just might decide to take a closer look. Maybe not. Hey, what's to lose?
As a brief aside, it should be pointed out that a secondary observation might be made with respect to how closely the following step-by-step analysis bears a strong resemblance to a near-perfect outline treatise of the entire trilogy itself. In hindsight, the construction of the game is very similar to distilling the story down to it most basic components and events. Granted that it's a lot easier to do once the books have been written, an author might do far worse than design and structure their tale, almost regardless of genre, in terms it being a game-type of affair. It's a novel concept that warrants additional exploration. Pun intended.
Please note: The game descriptions contain spoilers, so if you plan on reading the trilogy, don't peruse the game. Do that later. Maybe. Maybe not.

PREMISE
DRAGONIA, a world similar to Earth, is populated exclusively by two types of dragons. Type-One is a Trueblood. Truebloods are pure, 100% fire-breathing dragons. Type-Two is a hybrid cross between a dragon and a more typical animal species. Known as dragreatures, Type-Two breeds exist in the form of mammals, reptiles, birds, fish, and insects.
The dragreature citizens of DRAGONIA are governed by a dynastic matriarchy of Dragles who are equal parts dragon and eagle. The Truebloods rule themselves, but do so in harmony with their much smaller, less powerful neighbors.
Empress Fahrna, the former monarch, having brought forth an only son, has failed to bear a female successor who would replace her and carry on the thousand-season tradition of her royal ancestors. Suffering a prolonged and serious illness, the result of her despondency over the lack of an heir apparent, Fahrna’s inability to rule has left the realm in a state of chaos and disintegration.
The Truebloods have suffered their own cruel fate. A protracted, foreign plague has continued to decimate their numbers and left them on the verge of extinction.
Jonaf, the queen’s grown son, has taken a mate, Melia. Before the Royal Family can celebrate the birth of their daughter, Boja, who possesses the sacred Mark of the Golden Talon, Fahrna dies at the side of her elderly consort, Grandohr, who is princess Boja's grandfather. The golden talon of the newborn empress signifies her entitlement as the new monarch, and in order to save the troubled sovereignty from imminent ruin, she must be coronated without delay.
The valiant Trueblood, Dragragon, an admired hero among both his kind and dragreatures alike, is somehow immune to the Great Sickness. His beloved mate, Sarene, is not so fortunate. Within the depths of a dark forest, attended by her distraught, inconsolable companion, the beloved mate succumbs to the terrible contagion. While Dragragon carries Sarene into the Valley of Gloom and Darcklan, the ancestral graveyard for Truebloods and dragreatures alike, he overhears the cries of jubilation resounding throughout the region. The celebratory exclamations proclaim the birth of a new Talon, a Golden Queen who will soon restore order and peace and bring an end to all the mayhem and discord.
Insane with grief and delusional, Dragragon decides it was his healthy dragreature neighbors who spread the plague, who conspired against his superior breed. In a mindless act of vengeance, he attacks the Dragle galleries located high above the Cave of Queens, and far up the slopes of the volcano, Mamag. Seeking to kill the hatchling princess, the Trueblood blasts the mountain aeries with his deadly volleys of fire, but not before the Dragle colonies have made good their escape to an island refuge named Moon Hala. More important, the newborn Boja has eluded Dragragon’s wrath. With the help of an appointed guardian, Shelldon, she and the part turtle, part dragon dragurtle have fled DRAGONIA. Via an inter-dimensional portal known as Stormport, the two travel to another world. A strange, equally dangerous land called Earth.
Several seasons later, the princess is grown and prepares for her fateful return to the land of her birth. Still under the tutelage and protection of Shelldon, they must reenter Stormport and once in DRAGONIA, somehow defeat the ruthless tyrant, Dragragon, who has since declared himself king and, in the queen’s absence, reigns unopposed.
