All of the drawings reproduced here were originally created as preliminary sketches designed for use as temporary, removable tattoos, both for children and adults. The green images were intended as part of the "forest" collection, both rain and regular. When finalized, each of the tattoos would have received muted, earth-tone colors. The idea was to increase awareness of the damage being inflicted on the world's rainforests, and part of the proceeds would have been redirected accordingly.
The blue images at the bottom would have celebrated creatures of the sea, and reflected the concerns over the whaling and fishing industries. The whales in particular were already a big deal with me, as evidenced by my participation with the Sea Shepherd Society. More on that story can be found via the drop-down menu for NOUMENOMICON. Click on page NOU3 and go to the bottom.
Although the client for whom this work was done, never went into full production, it's interesting that real tattoos are more popular than ever. For those not familiar with "fake" tattoos, they are applied using water, much like a standard decal, and last about a week or so. The appliques were easily removed by rubbing them with vegetable oil.
I haven't looked recently to see if removable tats are still available. I assume they are, in one form or another. This was my particular foray into the field, along with the more elaborate, full-color images displayed in "Timtoo's Tattoos". That particular parlor is located under the Directory main heading.
